Greek defense focus

Greeks feel they have a solid defense that will try to not conceded many goals, including when faced with South Korea, Saturday (06/12/2010). Moreover, Greece has a bad memory regarding this matter.

Michalis SifakisWorld Cup 2010 is the second appearance of Greece in the World Cup. Previously they had qualified for the World Cup finals in 1994 though was devastated in the early stages.

Of the three group phase matches, the Greeks not only can never points. They also could not score against an opponent and conceded 10 goals.

On the mat this time Greece will want to be different. In addition to a stronger presence in front with Theofanis Gekas and Angelos Charisteas, Greece is also more solid at the back.

“Our main strength is probably the toughness of our defense, so our main target is not conceded a goal,” explained Giorgos Karagounis in Yahoosports.

This does not mean that Greece will play the negative and only rely on the defense. They will continue to attack despite the priority remains on defense.

“We will not be able to achieve many things if not fetched goal, we must make chances and goals, but first we’ll start by not being broken in,” Karagounis straightforward.
