Barca power past Stuttgart

Head coach Pep Guardiola was a happy man after holders Barcelona made no mistake in powering through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Guardiola’s men saw off Stuttgart 4-0 in the Camp Nou to complete a 5-1 aggregate success, with Lionel Messi again the star of the show with two superb left-foot strikes.

Afterwards, Guardiola told reporters: “We took to the pitch with great intensity and were aggressive in our approach – we never allowed any time to think.

“Physically we are a small side but with the backing of our supporters we feel so big.

“Messi is simply the best, but every team in the quarter-finals is strong and when we get there we’ll have to produce two excellent games in order to advance.”

Meanwhile the quarter-final line-up was completed by French champions Bordeaux, who won 2-1 at home to Olympiacos to seal a 3-1 aggregate triumph.
